Our History

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future".

Jeremiah 29:11 New International Version

Our Saviour Lutheran School was established by the congregation of the neighbouring Our Saviour Lutheran Church following many years of discussion and planning.

The pioneers of the congregation (about 50 members) were encouraged by the South Australian District Church to consider Christian education as a ministry to nurture and reach out to children in the Happy Valley area. So it was, that this small band of dedicated parishioners began investigating the possibility of starting a school.

On 9 November, 1986, this dream became a reality with the opening and dedication of the first school buildings by Pastor Tom Reuther, the National Director for Lutheran Schools.

The Principal, Mr Neil Schiller, together with Ms Coral Eggers, were the first staff to take up their duties, with an enrolment of 30 children.

The church hall – divided into two classrooms with a principal’s office in the kitchen – served as the school until the new classrooms were available at the end of 1986. From these humble beginnings, the school grew rapidly over the next decade, with the addition of numerous classrooms and specialist areas.

Today, students thrive on a modern campus with its own gymnasium, arts and music centre, modern library, new administration hub and an expansive oval and playground. There are approximately 20 staff on campus, including teaching staff, Learning Support Officers (LSO's) and administration.

While we have come a long way since those early days, the school continues its steadfast commitment to providing excellence in education within a Christian environment.

Our Brand Foundations for Life.

Our Saviour Lutheran School is a Foundation to Year 6 Co-educational School of the Lutheran Church of Australia, located in Aberfoyle Park.

With a strong focus on knowing each student well, our supportive and inclusive community, small class sizes and student-centred approach, gives each child a personalised way of learning – one that focuses on individualised, interest-based goals.

Our caring and actively supportive community, in partnership with dedicated and professional staff, provides an environment where children feel safe, supported, seen and heard – nurturing individuality, resilience and confidence as the foundation for a meaningful life.

This provides an enhanced learning experience, instilling a love of learning and a positive connection to life and community. It also supports the growth of heart-centred, creative, resilient and courageous individuals who are able to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
